4th ANNUAL ‘NODA GRAND PRIX POWERED BY ORTHOCAROLINA’ POSTPONED UNTIL 2016
NoDa’s Criterium Race Delayed for One Year Due to Construction
CHARLOTTE (November 12, 2014) – The 2015 edition of the NoDa Grand Prix Powered by OrthoCarolina has been postponed by organizers due to ongoing construction along the race course. The criterium race will return for its fourth edition in North Charlotte’s Historic Arts District during the spring of 2016.
“The first priority of the NoDa Grand Prix is ensuring the safety of racers and that starts with the integrity of the course,” said Shawn Moseley, co-race director for the NoDa Grand Prix Powered by OrthoCarolina. “As residents of NoDa, Chris Wooten and I are thrilled to see the neighborhood grow and evolve. However, after discussions with our friends at the CDOT we decided to push to 2016. The progress in NoDa is wonderful, but the current construction projects have created extremely limited parking and hazardous road conditions that will need to be addressed before resuming our race in 2016.
Construction of two multifamily developments along with the new CATS Blue Line station at North Davidson and 36th Street have compromised the streets and roads along the .9 mile race course that runs through the neighborhood. “The NoDa Grand Prix Powered by OrthoCarolina is a great day for the sport of cycling in the Carolinas, but safety is paramount and we feel that postponing the race to ensure optimal road conditions is a sound decision,” said Blair Primis, Director of Marketing for OrthoCarolina. “Just like the hundreds of participants in last year’s race, OrthoCarolina looks forward to being a part of the NoDa Grand Prix in 2016.”
In just three short years, the NoDa Grand Prix has become a signature event on the North Carolina cycling calendar, drawing hundreds of cyclists, their families and friends to the historic neighborhood.
